Do you want to improve the appearance of crooked, stained or chipped teeth? Veneers are the solution you’re looking for. These customised, wafer-thin shells cover the front surface of your teeth, resulting in a bright, straight and natural smile.

What are veneers?

Veneers are a brilliant, restorative dental treatment for covering stained or chipped teeth, and even hiding gaps. They are made of either porcelain or composite material, and address several dental issues, such as:

  • Worn down teeth

  • Chipped or broken teeth

  • Irregularly shaped or uneven teeth

  • Gaps between teeth

Composite veneers

If it’s only minor chips, cracks or discolouration that needs addressing, then the material we use for fillings (composite) may be all that’s required.

Porcelain veneers

A porcelain veneer treatment involves bonding a thin porcelain coating to the front surface of your tooth. This coating is strong, durable, looks natural and is resistant to staining. Two appointments are required for this treatment, as porcelain veneers are custom made in a lab.

If you’re unsure of which type of veneer is most appropriate for you, then fear not; we’ll give you all the expert guidance you need.

How are porcelain veneers applied?

The first step involves shaping the surface of the tooth equal to the thickness of the veneer. An impression is then taken of the tooth and sent off to a lab where the custom porcelain veneer is made. We apply a temporary veneer to the tooth to last until the porcelain one is ready.

Before the bond the veneer, we first check its fit and colour. Some trimming may be required so that it sits perfectly on the tooth. We then prepare the cement that will bond the veneer to the tooth, and shade the cement so it matches the natural colour of your teeth.

How long do veneers last?

Veneers usually last for around 10 years, but potentially longer. As we always say, it depends on your oral hygiene. Brushing, flossing and rinsing need to be regular habits, and we also recommend twice yearly check-ups with your dentist.
