Despite our best efforts, the nerve tissue within our teeth can sometimes die. This can occur due to exposure of the nerve through cavities, cracks in teeth or fractured teeth. When our nerves reach this stage of necrosis they can become infected and often require swift removal. By removing the nerve only, rather than the entire tooth, we are able to preserve the remaining tooth structure allowing you to continue chewing and smiling with your own tooth.
We employ various techniques to make root canals as easy as possible and despite popular culture and perception, root canal treatment has become very manageable. We often have patients fall asleep during the procedure!
Root canal treatment is performed over several appointments to ensure proper shaping and cleansing of the canal space inside of the tooth, as well as adequate time for any infection to resolve.
