Children’s dentistry

At Polished Dental, we love nothing more than helping children establish a positive relationship with their teeth. A lot of dental issues that occur late in life, such as tooth decay or gm disease, can be avoided if good oral hygiene habits are established from the get-go. That’s why it’s important that your child is introduced to our friendly team at an early age.

Making your child’s trip to the dentist a fun one

Unfortunately, the reality is that many of us feel nervous or stressed before a visit with the dentist and put off the appointment for as long as we can, to the neglect of our dental health. That’s why it’s important that a child’s first trip to the dentist is a fun and positive one, and they don’t grow up fearing the dental chair.

The best way to achieve this is to bring your child in for a visit early in their development, before any issues with their teeth or gums have arisen. The Australian Dental Association (ADA) recommends a child sees a dentist as soon as their first baby teeth erupt, or when they reach the age of one, whichever occurs first.

We like to see children for a routine check-up on their initial visit, as this allows us to deal with the simple things first. We spend the first appointments building a relationship with your child and familiarising them with dentistry in a playful and light-hearted manner.

They’ll even get to use the controls and go for a ride in the chair! And, when the appointment is finished, they can select a present from our awesome treasure chest. The whole aim is to help them feel relaxed and comfortable in the chair and develop a relationship with the dentist and assistant.

Medicare Child Dental Benefits Scheme

Under the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Scheme, children between the ages of two and 17 are entitled to $1000 in free dental benefits over two calendar years. At Polished Dental, we choose to bulk bill those who are eligible under the scheme so that there aren’t any out-of-pocket expenses up to the $1000 limit.

Children’s Dental Emergencies

When it comes to kids, accidents always seem to be just around the corner. Occasionally, they can lead to a chipped or knocked out tooth, but don’t worry. There’s no need to panic. We have a great step-by-step guide on what to do when a tooth gets knocked out, and we’re also open on weekdays and weekends for emergency dental appointments. We’ll be there to fix any dental emergencies your child may have.

Common children’s dental treatments

Fissure sealants

Sealants are thin plastic coverings that protect a tooth against invasion from bacteria, which can settle in grooves and fissures and begin the process of decay. The application is quick and painless.

Crowns and fillings

Cavities can occur even when we think we’re practising good oral hygiene. It’s important that you book in with us as soon as you think your child may have developed a cavity, so we can get to it quickly and limit the damage done. They’ll have a healthy, happy smile in no time.

A custom-fitted mouthguard is the best defence against a chipped or knocked out tooth when playing sport. There’s no better way to protect your child’s beautiful smile, so call us today to find out more about them.

Even though it’s the weekend, our amazingly flexible payment options are still available. You can pay for your Saturday dental treatment with Zip Money as if it’s a regular weekday.
